Local Family History
Do you need help looking up your family history? Are you or your relatives connected with Shere and the local area?
Original Shere Museum Curator and Archivist, Elizabeth Rich, has so far helped 80 families discover more about their genealogy.
If you are researching your ancestors, we invite you to get in touch with Elizabeth.
She grew up in Shere in the 1930s & 40s and has lived in the village for 60 years. She knows a lot of local history and recalls village life of the past, narrating the film below, called ‘A Downland Village’.
Listen and watch as Elizabeth recalls what life was like in the village in this ‘British Instructional Film’ of Shere village from 1947. You never know, you might even see someone you recognise!
APOLOGIES – THE FILM HAS BEEN REMOVED – the film is now being re-edited with new narration and captions that reflect extra information recently obtained. The new film will return as soon as it can be re-edited.
Very soon we’ll upload old photos from Shere so that more people from the past can be identified and shared with more families in future.
Please return to this page in future and let us know who’s who!
